Hi! I'm Ima Ikuru (she/her, he/him, and they/them)
I am a data enthusiast, a geologist, a musician, and a food lover! I currently live in Woodstock, Georgia. If I'm not out with friends, I spend most of my free time cooking or hanging with my best friend (who is also my cat) Beans. I love to learn new things, so you might catch me searching up random facts whenever I have my phone. I also enjoy traveling and exploring the outdoors!
In August 2017, I began studying mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. As a 16-year-old studying in Nigeria, I wasn't presented with many options for a college degree. I knew I loved physics and math so I guessed I would love Mechanical Engineering. I tolerated it.
In August 2020, I officially changed majors and began to pursue a degree in Environmental Geology instead. I decided I wanted to learn more about the earth and it was an amazing decision. I got to go outside a lot and learned how to view things from a more human perspective.
This degree was heavy on scientific research and exposed me to out-of-the-box analytical thinking and effective presentation.
In my research, I found that human behavior was a driving force behind many environmental occurrences. Drawn to the idea of analyzing and predicting human behavior through data, I made a career change and retrained as a data analyst. I am interested in the use of big data to analyze human behavior and use them as a tool for improving performance and decision-making across several industries.
I am a recent graduate of the CareerFoundry Data Analytics program. I began this program four months after earning a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Geology.
This course has served as a good stepping stone to the world of data by amplifying the skills I had previously and teaching me new essential skills through various projects.
I have thoroughly enjoyed doing these projects, I hope I can get the opportunity to pick up some more skills and apply my knowledge in real-life situations. I am currently available to work anywhere in a diverse collaborative environment.
My key skills include: · SQL· Python · Data Visualization· Presentation· Excel· Data Wrangling· Machine Learning· Critical Thinking
